Brief Course Summary:
This presentation will focus specifically on crime guns, and what information can be gleaned from them in furtherance of a gun crime investigation. We will discuss firearm identification, the ATF’s eTrace program for identifying guns from different crimes using NIBIN (discussed last month), and how NESS helps to tie it all together. You will learn how to identify a particular weapon, and how important it can be in identifying possible straw purchasers or firearm trackers. We will also discuss how crucial comprehensive and accurate information is to leveraging these systems to add the most to an investigation, no matter the size of the agency or the resources available.

Jennifer “Paige” Zielinski received a BS in Psychology from Texas Wesleyan University, and a Master of Criminal Justice from Tarleton State University. She has worked for the Fort Worth Police Department for over 17 years in various roles, becoming a Crime and Intelligence Analyst almost 7 years ago. Two years ago, she got the opportunity to start a Crime Gun Intelligence detail for the department, partially due to her time in the Department’s Crime Lab Firearms Unit. This detail and its capabilities are still growing and evolving, and we can discuss that as well.
When she’s not at work, Paige enjoys renaissance fairs, reading, gardening, shooting, and spending time with her husband and three Bassett Hound mixes. She also collects antiques and police memorabilia, and volunteers for the Department’s Peer Support Team.
