Center for Intelligence and Crime Analysis

Housed within the Sam Houston State University College of Criminal Justice, the Institute of Homeland Security, is home to the Center for Intelligence and Crime Analysis (CICA). It's dedicated to helping public safety agencies and critical infrastructure organizations improve their analytical capabilities through professional development, education, and research.

There's no secret that the public and private sectors are facing a range of threats and opportunities in today's interconnected world. From manmade disasters to natural catastrophes, organizations need to be equipped to handle whatever comes their way. To build organizational resiliency and improve performance, it is crucial to understand both external and internal risk factors. 

The goal of the CICA is to enhance public safety through expanded and improved data analytics. By leveraging the latest tools and techniques, we're helping organizations of all sizes and types stay ahead of the curve and keep their communities safe. 

Curriculum

The Crime Analysis Certificate Program  consists of four required courses.

Total Credit Hours Required: 128 Credit Hours

Courses are held throughout the calendar year virtually and in person at the Sam Houston State University campus in The Woodland, TX.

Required courses:

  • Foundations of Crime Analysis
  • Databases & Analysis
  • Introduction to Social Network Analysis
  • Crime and Problem Mapping

TXLEAN was formed in 2017 as an incorporated entity in Texas and is affiliated with the International Association of Crime Analysts (IACA).
